You have an American made travel trunk from the mid to late 1880's. It is a barrel top, cross slat design. (A cross slat trunk has the slats on top running from front to back, patent 1880). It has an embossed tin metal, alligator pattern that looks to of been gold at one time. This was a popular style made by most trunk makers and without a label there is no way to know who made it. This was a popular pattern and finish with the gold translucent shellac applied on it. Hope this helps. Hmsantiquetrunks.com
