Hello, I was hoping to find out a bit more on this ring .(age ,material , location of manufature) I do not see any hallmarks as it is tarnished. it appears to be a carved seashell of Alexander the Great maybe. I read very old gold mixed with copper can tarnish ,I wondered any thoughts on this and if it is good to clean this item to shine? Thank you ahead for any comments.
Wow! This is very different. It looks like MOP (mother of pearl), which is a shell but I don't recall ever seeing anything carved from it like this. And gold does tarnish. Could be gold, maybe even rose gold and could be solid copper too. You can take it to a jeweler to have them test it to find out. Some jewelers are helpful and may be able it id it if no one here knows. You might also have some luck at a pawn shop, they are more apt to test it for you with a smile.
Thanks very much , It seems very old with all the wear . Even if its copper , pretty cool . Thank you
I agree! And yes, of course I have seen it carved or etched before, I just don't remember it being like this ring. Curious to hear what you find out about it! Oh, and you are very welcome, wish I could have been more help!
This ring is different and nice. It is hard to tell its age, it is eather rather old or trying to look old. If old it could be carved out of onyx as well. I also think you should take it to an expert on old jewelry.
