Just bought this awesome 1955 Kenmore Seeing machine for $20 from a consignment shop in Niagara Falls, NY. It starts up, but smells like burning. Also the needle doesn’t go up or down. It has a fold up knee pedal. Any other info is very helpful!

Keep it unplugged sounds like something is seized up inside maybe the belt or motor Have it looked at.

My mom had a similar machine. It came with a little plastic squeeze bottle of oil which had a long, needle-like nozzle which was for getting the oil to all the moving parts inside (not in motor). I agree it sounds like some moving parts are stuck. Have u checked to see if there’s thread tangled inside the bobbin area? Or globs of fibers and dust inside?
I agree u should have a professional check it out for you.

Oops...I just read the front cover of your owners manual....it says “do not oil the machine”!
So forget I said anything about oil.
