    My friend and I just got this today to set up in our shop. We know nothing at all about it. Not sure if it’s in the original state or not. Does anyone know if they made a black canvas like material?

      You have an American made travel trunk from the 1890's. It is a Steamer or Cabin trunk. (A Steamer, or Cabin trunk, were trunks no taller than 14" as per steamship regulations). Someone painted it black and gold. If you look at the inside of the front, top strap guides you can see the original color. Hope this helps,
