Here is another piece of Arts and Crafts. It’s a brooch that I wear as a necklace and for some reason I am really drawn to this piece. I wear this often because there is a really nice feeling to it . If anyone has any suggestions as to designer again I would be most grateful for any comments. It’s probably hard to see from my images but the thistles are coloured 2 shades of purple a bluey green colour and silver tips. Looks like there foil inside. As I am looking at this now I am getting such a nice feeling of contentment and that’s how I feel when I wear it. I sound a bit loopy I know but it’s true !
Sweet piece! The enamel seems in perfect condition! Maybe the thistles point to a Scottish provenance?
The leaves may be distinctive of a maker...
I love wearing my brooches on necklaces too ;-))
Hi Kyratango , I was thinking about the leaves , your right they are distinctive. I am just reading a book that arrived this week. In it the author says its a very tricky business trying to attribute this jewellery if its not signed. Of course most of the pieces I have are not signed, however the book goes on to say that this is the no. At the end of the day it doesn't matter because I am buying things that charm me. Thanks for your comment, I really appreciate it. Sue.
That was meant to read, this is the norm, not this is the no !!!!
This is a lovely design, but the work is very generic. It's hard to attribute it. Lots of lovely pieces were made by the students at the arts schools. It was also relatively cheap to buy a kiln for a home workshop so you get a lot of lovely home studio work which was mainly done by women (because a home studio was considered an acceptable way for a woman to earn an income or undertake a hobby). But you just never know when you'll come across a piece that's comparable and for which a solid attribution can be made. And Kyra is observant in making the thistle/Scottish connection. Although I can't think of a comparable Scottish piece. Keep collecting what you love, Arts & Crafts represents good value for those who enjoy it's artistic merits and also like to constantly learn about design & makers.
Thanks again Jewels1900, you comments here are so interesting to me. How lovely that women would get involved in being creative like that and all from home ! Actually as far as loving the items I have purchased I really don’t mind who made them or even if that person will always be anonymous , attribution is of course an added bonus. I will continue to keep buying what appeals to me . I think you are quite right about Arts and Crafts pieces being good value. I have paid very little for most of my pieces with the exception of a couple of lay-bys ( not huge amounts even then ) but each piece is precious to me and the joy and entertainment I get from the learning is such an added bonus. So a heart felt thanks for your comments and time.
I love these rich colors too! Very pretty!
Hello again shareurpassion, I love this piece and have quite a connection with it, not sure why. I often reach for it when I go out and it feels strangely comforting when I wear it..... how odd that sounds. I was such a bargain price too I think about 15 pounds . Thanks for your comments I really appreciate it.
