This is a 37cm/15in composition girl. She has her original clothes, shoes and socks, but no markings. Wig is glued.
No cracks, crackling or flaws. I still can't believe it. She is my one and only (for now) composition doll.
She is probably from the late 40s. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Edited to add: She seems to be an unmarked Mary Hoyer doll.
Mary Hoyer dolls were always marked, except for a short period in the 30s, so, unless someone can come up with a better ID, I am calling this mystery solved.
Hmmmm a very rare, unmarked Mary Hoyer....not bad for a $7.00 ebay find!!!
Looks like a Mary Hoyer doll to me. See this site: http://dollreference.com/mary_hoyer_dolls.html
Thanks Stef! I too think she might be a Mary Hoyer. She looks almost identical, but since she is unmarked, and her clothes are also unmarked, it's hard to say.
Your doll is what is called a Painted eye Hoyer . The first doll she used before marking them . They are not marked
Thanks Marty!
Since she seems to be a rare model, and for insurance purposes, does anybody know aproximate value?
Glad to help . The Hoyers like her sell for about 65-100 US dollars right now . She is not what we consider rare but is a wonderful example of Mary Hoyer's start .
A Hoyer and doll collector for over 30 yrs and worked with one of the finest doll experts for many many yrs . Doll prices have fell but at peak she may have brought a bit more
Thanks again, Marty! 65 - 100 US dollars is great for me, since I paid 7 US... :)
You got a good buy ! Would be wonderful dressed in a knitted Hoyer outfit which you can buy on eay fairly cheap at the moment . She would show beautifully dressed in right type of clothes for her .
