Theses came from my neighbors estate sale in Michigan. The family lived in our area for six generations. Their was a note in the box (I added some photos of the notes) that read "Shoe buckles made by Samuel Beach of Vermont in 1763 or 1764. They were made from the silver ornaments worn by an Indian chief Mr Beach killed in a battle during the French and Indian war. Were passed down through the generations to the Samuels in the family. Were given to Florence Cooley Miller by the last Samuel Cooley. The Father of Samuel Beach was Gersham Beach-great,great,great grandfather of Marsden Miller and armorer for the state of Massachusetts". I also bought hundreds of notes, letters, wills, documents and photos of 6 of the 7 generations that owned these buckles. Pretty cool and I know it sounds far fetched but trade silver was huge with the Native Americans and both of these men mentioned are soundly recorded all over the Internet and in old books. Both of them serverd with Ethan Allen and the Green Mountian Boys at Ticonderoga! I would love to know their value. Thanks, Greg Rheaume
Anyone who has the love of the past to collect it, and respect it , as the hidden treasure with a story & life all it's own , protects the future . This piece of history that was lovingly kept in the family for many generations has rightfully ended up in your , protective hands. I'm sure all the generations that held it before you would be pleased.
Thanks for sharing this story , Greg
Great story and historic buckles.
I'd work to document and confirm the family story.
Are the buckles marked anywhere?
