A month ago, I posted a half scaled hydraulic ram pump, or as most commonly called, … a water ram. That ram was made by a friend, (now deceased). It pumps a stream of water out of a 1/4" exit line several feet higher than the source, by using only the power of falling water and no electricity.
In this post, I have (2) two micro - mini water rams. one that another friend had made and one that I made. These micro-mini rams both function like a full sized water ram, as does the 1/2 scale ram in the previous posting, but the inlet on these rams is 1/4" in diameter, and the outlet is 1/8" in diameter.
They are both 3 1/2" long and 2 1/2" and 2" tall respectively. I have pumped water through both of these models to over 8' high above the source of the water.
both are made of brass, each with it's own individual character, both were made without either makers knowing that the other person was also machining a mini-ram ( sounds confusing, doesn't it?).
The first photo shows both mini-rams along with an 1889 silver dollar ( for size comparison).
The third photo shows the mini-ram that my friend built, which is the larger of the two.
The fourth photo shows the mini-ram that I built (the smaller of the two)
I just find it ironic that we both built somewhat similar mini-rams unknowing that a friend was also making one.
Water rams are very interesting inventions that started in the early 1800's by a plumber who was looking for a way to pump water to the second floor of the hospital that he worked in.
Google the history of the hydraulic water ram. it is quite an interesting story.

      Awesome!

I live in South Africa and hydraulic water rams can still be found in some of the more rural areas.
