I found this ship at a thrift shop. This ship is about 18 inches long by 16 inches high. I have no idea if it is handmade or not. The black trim paint on the cabins is sloppy, perhaps it was painted afterwards. It has lots of cute details like the lifeboat, a lobster trap, all those little floats (? ) on the ropes. Do any of you know the history of such a ship? Is it considered folk art? Thanks!

I love these old ships and have several of them on display in our beach home In Hawaii. Very cool find.

Rattletrap and Toyrebel, thanks so much for your comments and encouragement. I know nothing about ships, except that they are beautiful. I think I will display it on some of my rough hewn shelves. Don't know if I am responding correctly, this is my first time here. I have lots of stuff to post!

I hesitate to say this, but most of these are modern. There are some really well made ones out there, but made in the Far East or China. Most are of surprising quality. When they start making the in California, the quality will certainly drop.

blunderbuss2, thanks for letting me know that my ship is modern. That way, I don't have to worry about its condition so much.

Hope I didn't burst any bubbles. Store here in SXM had hundreds & I helped assemble a lot because of being improperly packed & rigging would be tangled. It was a job ! Square riggers especially.

blunderbuss2, no, I didn't have any bubbles to burst. I was pretty sure that my ship had minimal value. I am very grateful for your help. As you assembled many of them, you are the ideal person to provide the info! Thanks again.
