      So sorry for what your mom and you are going through.
      The cedar chest reminds me of one that had belonged my grandparents and was handed down thru the family.
      It, too, was beautiful wood and simple construction, probably home-made. A treasure!

      Definitely homemade. The outside corner molding is not something a furniture maker would do. It was added as an after thought to hide the end grain. If you could trace the family tree back 60 years you might find a carpenter in the family that would account for who made it.

      60 years ago Century tried to compete with Lane and made a good solid cedar chest but didn't become a big hit. They were a bit unique as they had a combination lock that could also be opened with a key. I have a Century here with that type lock and they put a large marquee style poster on the inside of the lid advertising their product. The one I have the poster looks like new. I suppose the cedar and darkness served to preserve it.
