Mystery Coin?

Does anyone know what this is?? I am trying to identify this for a good friend of my family who has no idea what it is, it appears to be new or in very good condition but I don`t think it is a coin due to the fact it has no numerical values on it so it may be a commemorative coin except there is nothing on it noting what it was for so I have narrowed down to some kind of a religious coin but that is as far as I have gone if, in fact, I am even on the right track. If it is of a religious nature then I am way out of my league so if anyone has any ideas please let me know Or it will remain the mystery coin of his family, which might not be all bad either.
