This is a grouping of Franz Welz vases from the late 1920s Czechoslovakia

It all started when I received the smaller than expected vase (seen on the right side of the first pic). I buy 90 percent my pieces on-line, this happens occasionally. I was gonna chuck this to sales boxes and cut my losses- then I started to appreciate the decors from smaller pieces. For one thing, smaller pieces have brighter and richer decor (usually). The second thing, you can put more pieces in a grouping if they aren’t as large. Lastly, it plays a trick (or tickle) on the eye- gives you a sense of depth and proportion. I’ve often wondered why they made more sizes In certain pieces and less in others- could the smaller pieces have used in salesman’s boxes? samples? Or different uses- like perfume or gift accessories.

We may never know....Size displays are great even if you only have a pair- in fact I prefer a different size pair than a matched pair

Size Display: When you display pieces in the same shape of different sizes

    1. Here are are the sizes in the first grouping so you can see the range:
    Height - Lip diameter
    tall- 9 1/4” - 3 1/2”
    med- 8 1/8” - 3 1/4”
    Small- 7 1/4” - 3”

    2. In the second image you can see that there are actually two distinct shapes -the one to the left is without a dimple the one to the right is dimpled. I was lucky enough to have these six shapes without any idea They would line up this way

    3. Even two shapes look really great! These display well even though they may not be the same exact shape -in other words both shapes may have been different design number similar to the grouping above

    4. Size displays work- even when the colors or decors don’t look well together. I would never have put a pink line vase next to an orange vase; size differences makes them work

      Great displays!
The group of six would also look good, as two trios, at the ends of a mantelpiece.
