I went into the PA forest last week and found something that I always look for, and seldom find. I found a tree with "Chaga" growing on it. I harvested it and had some chaga tea when I got home.
So what is chaga? Chaga is a fungus growth that forms on trees (I find it on birch trees along streams, although It does grow on other trees). It has been used as a medicinal herb tea since stone age men roamed the earth. In fact, they found some on the 5,000 yr. old body that surfaced in the Otztal alps in Sept. of 1991. I believe they nicknamed him "Otzi".
"Chaga Tea" has long been made as a healing and strengthening tea and had remarkable medical qualities, from arthuritis to stomach ails. I break off small pieces and put them in a coffee grinder to grind down to tea size flakes. I then put into tea bags (you can purchase empty tea bags at health food stores). This, and a little honey, makes a great tasting tea that is healthy and refreshing.
If you would like to try some, you can purchase chaga tea bags at the health food store. Articles on "Youtube" show how to find it in forest throughout the world. It grows only in temperate zones. Pennsylvania climate is perfect for growing chaga.

Hey Vynil, It is quite funny when you put medicinal and stone(ed) man together. Sometimes I type words and forget to reread them, and, of course, there's my spelling capabilities, ..... terrible, to say the best. Thank goodness for spellcheck and my wife's editing my posts (she was shopping when I wrote this post) lol, ... Barry
