I just want to know if this chair is really an antique. A family member told me that it belong a great grandmother. It's a simple wooden chair with no distinguishing marks except for the stenciled letters and numbers on the bottom. I have had it for 16 yrs. But i was told that it is much older. Does any one have any info to offer?
I would think vintage would be a better term than antique. The stenciling appears to have said Virginia House. That would be a common manner of keeping inventory and keeping things in the proper place. This chair has a very thin laminated seat where if it were an antique we would expect to see a thick solid slab seat.
I have one similar but a bit fancy er ...its a NICHOLS AND STONE WINDSOR ROCKING CHAIR... ...did you look around here?

I don't think it is an antique. I have been doing more research. It does say Virginia House. There was a company by that name making furniture but they had a burn stamp on the furniture this does not have one. And no the seat is not one solid piece. Im pretty sure it was several pieces glued then the seat was cut. A very modern practice. If my research is correct Virginia house was bought out and my rocker was mass produced starting in 1987. I was looking for info on the chair because I have family "claiming" its antique. Vintage is definitely a better choice.
