I found this 1965 quarter in my daughter's yard. It seems to be mainly copper. Anyone know if that's possible? I'm new at this and could use some insight. The pic doesn't show well..but there's words and numbers on front of coin kind of all over it.
Quarters are 75% copper and 25% nickel.
Yes, I know what materials are involved in the making of quarters. But.. this quarter has no nickel on the front and very thin on back of coin. It seems the nickel is missing on front. Is it possible that can happen from the mint.
I posted a pic with a side view..its all copper except very then layer on back.
Mystery solved. Its missing front clad layer.
Its just environmental damage.
