This table tray was made by a member of the Salish Tribe of the Pacific Northwest Coast. Tribal members live in British Columbia, Canada and in Oregon and Washington in the United States. This tray is old, probably from the 1930's or so and it is gorgeous still! I got it from someone who found it at an estate sale in Canada. He told me the lady who owned it traveled extensively in her lifetime but he was not sure where she picked this up at. It is made of Yellow Cedar Bark and the imbrication on the basket is made of red Cherry Tree Bark. The Salish used different methods to get the Cherry Tree Bark to turn red or black or even light and dark Purple! I have another basket that was also made by the Salish tribe that has used Cherry Bark in the color Purple and it is really nice. Enjoy the pics :)
