Hi, I just found this letter opener and was wondering if it was valuable at all. It looks old and ornate, but I have no idea what it's worth. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Thank you. I'm about 95% sure its ivory, and I'm assuming it's Sterling mounted. I looked forever but couldn't find the slightest sign of who made it at all.

I could not find any sterling or 925 marks at all. Nor was there any semblance of a maker's mark on either the opener or the case. Is it possible that it could have worn off? Thanks again for the help

Ok. Between the opener and the case with I might actually make a worthwhile amount. Thank you again for the information and help

Hey so I actually cleaned it with some silver polish today and was able to find to distinct hallmarks. However I have searched extensively and have not been able to find them online whatsoever. I will upload a picture of them.

Very nice, but I think this is really a page turner, and not a letter opener. Ivory is one of those items that needs very good pictures (several) or to be held in the hand to verify what is is, or more importantly, what it is not. I will dig out some of my European silver mak books to see if I can find that mark.

This was made between 1896 and 1910 by Eugene Lefebvre, a French silversmith who did a tremendous amout of French Art Nouveau.

Wow Thank you guys so much. That is incredible. Who knew one little mark could tell us all that information. So now how much would you say it's worth?
