Won after some rather serious bidding, this Rindskopf vase is another new arrival. This type of glass does not seem to turn up for sale often within Australia, & when it does, the competition is fierce.
It is made from three layers of glass, with a lavish marbled decor in cool, bluish green & white, & has an applied "snake" which has a metallic grey appearance, almost like pewter. Of impressive size, the vase measures 24 cm tall, 4.5 cm across the cut & polished top rim, & 9 cm across the base, which does not have a pontil mark.
There is a light iridescence to the vase, more intense on the "snake".
Very pleased to welcome this fine piece into my collection!

Beautiful and interesting. The "applied snake" is very similar to the "applied claw" attributed to the Kralik glassworks ("Kralik Claw"). It seems that some "Kralik Claw" could be Rindskopf. ???

Great find and well done, as in beating off the opposition! Of course the cross section of the snake was often used as a handle on jugs of the period and later. Said handles also ended in a 'claw'. No doubt you have examples yourself.

Many thanks, larksel...the claw ending does seem to turn up on glassware from various makers & eras. It was used on many Victorian art glass items & even on mid - 20th century pieces from Italy. I have owned a couple of "Empoli" type opaline items that had the same type of handle, & these were definitely 1950s - 60s Italian. A versatile technique that adds an extra decorative touch!

Many thanks, Peggy, much appreciated! Yes, for sure I've had numerous pieces come in & out of my collection over the years with precisely this type of decorative handle - it works so well on all types of art glass!

Thanks also, Broochman! Yes, it had to be pictured in nature, so appropriate for Art Nouveau glass...
