These machines were used for compressing leather for shoe soles. This process made the leather more dense and pressed out surplus moisture. They became more popular from about 1900 onwards. Before this the leather was beaten with a flat faced hammer. It was made by the AJK company. This name appears on many shoe lasts and other related tools but it is difficult to find information on the company.

This US patent with the same number is for a metal bending machine.

Keramikos; I could not find any information on AJK possibly because on-line references may be to the full name of the company rather than just the initial three letters. Just guessing. I did find a site which listed a collection of shoe tools in Scotland, many of which were marked AJK but it did not say where they were made.
