Trying to figure this one out. Number scale down middle is 1 thru 12, then repeats 1 thru 12 again. Numbers are 5/16" apart. 9" long when closed and 14" when extended. Very well made from wood and brass. Anybody know ?
That is a lufkin style log ruler. It will tell you how many board feet of wood are in a standing tree before you cut it. Trees are measured and ones to be harvested are marked to be cut.
I am not sure what you have there. Sorry,fhrjr2, but I don't think it is a log rule, Lufkin style, or, otherwise, it is just too small. My guesses would be a printers rule or gage, or, for drafting.
Might not be lp but up north I have seen them from 12 " to 4 '. Which you use depends on the species and intended end product. It might well be intended for use as some type of caliper. I was posting based on what I have seen in person. Hopefully someone will find an exact match and we will all learn something we didn't know.
I had a couple log rulers here ( for calculating board foot yield of a log, based on length and diameter), and Log Calipers, but they have since moved on to a new home. I'm just having a hard time figuring out the scales on the item posted!!!
These don't enlarge on my computer for some reason so all I get is a long distance view. Cant see scales.
It looks similar to an item used in shoe shops to measure peoples feet. If it is, I have not seen one like this before. They are usually folding rather than sliding.

lptools, I'm posting a similar one I picked up in a market many years ago.
This item appears to have flat extension prongs that open beyond 90 degrees. I never have seen that on any trammel points. I hope someone finds and posts one like this
