This one dates from the early-mid 1970's, where it served as my own personal form of transportation back and forth to school or anywhere else I wanted to go, until I finally got an actual driver's license and set of keys to Mom's car instead. Recovered today from the attic of my former residence (where it's been stored for at least 20yrs) it hasn't otherwise been fully assembled much less ridden for at least a decade before that.
Shown 'as recovered', it is obviously still dirty and slightly surface rusty, and just about anything rubber on it (including at least one still-labeled SCHWINN tire, pic 3, the other matches) is no doubt dry-rotted to uselessness by now. It had/has the then oh-so-popular 'foam handlebar grips' as well as chromed front forks, and still has its original SCHWINN dealer's store's name tag on its seatpost, along with a 'city bicycle tax' sticker from the town I grew up in and another slightly later one which allowed me to use it/chain it to a rack on the college campus I attended (mid 1980's by then) where (even though I had my own car then too) it was otherwise handier to get around on. Frankly that was probably the last time it really got *used*...? ;-) :-)
Well - clean - replace rubber - lube - tune her up - ride!
I love the old Schwinns that were made in the USA.
I've owned had a few Schwinns - raced on a Schwinn Super Le Tour back in the mid 70s.
You will enjoy the bike again...
Thanks SO much Hoot60 for your thoughtful and kind comment, I guess in some way that was one of the reasons why I rescued it today before it might have otherwise 'got away' from me. :-) As to fixing it up and riding it again...well, I should probably do both of those things too, but have otherwise got much more used to teasing my otherwise "bicycle rider" friends that if I wanna take a "bike ride", I'd now generally more prefer to just toss it in the back of my truck and take the ride in comfort/air conditioning/stereo sound instead, without having to get all sweaty and tired and all *that*....???? <LOLOLOL>
More THANKS to MALKEY, fortapache, Newfld, iggy, yougottahavestuff, Cokeman1959, vetraio50 & officialfuel for stopping by with your <love it>s!!
