I've seen these vases in a local antiques shop for a while, but today I decided to make them mine at last. For one thing, I was feeling like a shopping expedition of sorts, & now that more shops are open, I was able to satisfy my cravings at last. I'd noticed the shop open a week ago while driving past to buy groceries, & the sight made my heart leap. A tad excessive I suppose, but you've got to take the thrills where you find them.
So, after a pleasant chat (appropriately distanced) with the proprietor, I was able to obtain this pair for an excellent discount (willingly offered, not demanded at all, that's just not my style).
They have the distinctive Welz three - ball foot design, & measure 20 cm tall, 3 cm across the top rim, & around 7 cm across the thorny base. This decor is an example of burnt orange mica, & is cased with what looks like clear amber over an opaque brick red interior, with the mica sandwiched in between the layers. Both vases feature a dramatic applied rigaree in clear glass, that flounces it's way around the slightly tapering, cylindrical neck. Clear applied thorny feet complete the complex & busy design. I'll be posting some more detail shots as there is just so much eccentric, fanciful fun happening in these vases. They are unabashedly exuberant, over the top, & delightfully quirky.
Made my day & hope they brighten yours, too. Happy Saturday, folks!
Well this is a wonderful unique pieces. Congratulations.
Many thanks, larksel! Yes, they are something special indeed, & so so pleased to have them in my collection. They fit in perfectly with all the other oddities... :-)
Excellent pieces in an excellent decor - good purchase.
Much appreciated, artfoot. Very happy to have them!
Burnt orange is one of my favorite colors. I love this décor. Congratulations on the find.
Thanks so much, Ms.CrystalShip! I'm lucky to have an abundance of nature to work with...& the last of the autumn leaves were the right match for these...
Much appreciated, jimtim - I'm so glad that I went on my little shopping trip today...
Simply Fabulous!!!
I love these!! This is the first time that I am aware of that the decor has been seen on this 3 balled foot.
Would you be so kind as to take an image of them against a solid background like white? I would love to add them to the Burnt Orange Mica page on my website.
A wonderful find for sure!!
Craig, consider it done - more images will be available tomorrow (almost midnight here).
Great to know that these have been of research interest...funny how I've seen them in the shop for ages & only just decided to make a move today. Very glad that I did!
Pieces like these are treasures that simply continue to solidify the fact that the decor was produced by Welz. One can never have too much supporting evidence. Thanks so much for your help!!
Happy to help...I was planning to post more photos anyway as the vase pictured on the left has a wonderful red trail within one of the clear footed feet...it looks like a ribbon trapped inside...a happy accident of glass - making...
AMAZINGLY Beautiful Welz!!
These are some of the best looking Welz pieces that I have seen-- just love them.
