Here's a Deluxe Reading "The Chief" Fire Dept. Playset. #0022(?). My first "Grocery Store" Christmas toy.
Might be missing some fire implements(not sure), but the trucks are complete with chrome loss on the pumper. Been putting this together for a while, it's a childhood fave, my first Deluxe Reading/Topper toy. I got one of these for Christmas in the display box. It looked cool and had the fire fighters putting out a building fire backdrop, it's a vivid Christmas memory. All my other Deluxe Reading toys came in the standard cardboard box. I don't know how I wound up with the display. It came with a hook and ladder truck, pumper and 16 firefighters/equipment. It also had a kid sized helmet and lantern so you could assume command of Engine Co. 17. Internet sites date it as 1960 but I was still living in Montgomery in '59 when I recieved it for Christmas. I was living in Oklahoma the next Christmas and I know I did not get it in '60. Love to find a display box or just the backdrop.
I shared the fire engines in a follow-up post.

    Thanks,
    Bill

That is a pretty cool set. We used to have a grocery store and vendors would give us stuff like this.
