Beautiful glass, called a "spooner" would be nice to collect more of these, first I thought it was a drinking glass, but to my attention it had a scalloped edge, lol........duh...Thanks tallcakes for reminding me not a drinking glass.

you certainly have lots of pretty glass! This is a spooner (used to hold spoons back in the day) and the pattern is 'Virginia' and United States Glass #15071; another of the 'state series' by USG, ca.1901. The color is rose blush stained. AKA: Banded Portland; 'cause it looks like the 'Portland' pattern with the addition a the diamond band.

Wow, I glad I am not using it as a drinking glass. Or can you ?? use them as glasses...I was wondering why there was only one.
      Thanks tallcakes....

that rim would be a bit difficult to drink from, don't ya think? The more elaborate rim is the tale-tale sign of a spooner or celery vase to distinquish them form other table service pieces.

Tallcakes go to this site and look towards bottom one that kinda matches and read what it says about the blush stain.

yep, that one is 'Texas', another from 'state series'; you see lots of ruby stain but not so much of the blush. Look on the 2nd row on that page and you'll see 'Portland' which is the same as yours without the diamond band. That is one of my fave glass sites.

I must have rolled by fater as Portland is actually in the 5th row.

Yes, I do but why would you want to lower the price...lol
but it doesn't have the blush color... or blush stain...??? doesn
t this make it more important or special?
    9. TallCakes TallCakes, 13 years ago
not more special Sweetie; 'Portland' is just a very similar pattern without the band. Yours is definitely most special!

This color of stain is more commonly referred to as Maiden's Blush.

I have a covered sugar bowl and covered butter dish in this pattern and color. They were my grandmother's. I knew they were Portland glass but didn't know the color was rose-blush. They are beautiful, just like the one in the pictures above.
