These two (not so great) pics were snapped several yrs ago now when I was otherwise looking for a house to buy, at the time simply noticing the "oddity" on the ground outside the back door. Once keramikos issued the 'challenge' in the post linked above, I suddenly realized that I probably *did* already have a pic or two of that one MAJESTIC lid I otherwise spotted there at one of the houses I looked at but didn't buy -- went looking thru the old pic files and *here we are*?!! :-) :-) :-)
I only kinda brushed some of the leaves/etc off of it to take these pics with the MAJESTIC name on them, I didn't further explore it all to see if the lid actually would open or if anything remains underneath it anymore.
Also for the record this example would most likely date from ca.1953-4, when my entire subdivision was first built.
Ain't it FUN all the oddball stuff we all learn together around here, keramikos???!! <applause>
Knowing some of the history of my current neighborhood, I will indeed hold out that it is/was a garbage receiver.
This whole subdivision was put up on (then) the very edge of town in 1953-4, on what had formerly been hilly (and very rocky!!) mostly forested land. "Cisterns" or "coal heating" never existed here, instead one of the selling points back then was that the neighborhood was the "first new subdivision in the U.S.A where every single home was equipped with central air conditioning".
["ARKLA SERVEL" gas fired units by the way, that somehow made cold air inside by burning natural gas in a box outside, in the summertime...quite strange devices themselves that never really caught on back then and are all now universally disappeared, probably for good reason...I think they were touted as being "49% efficient"...??? <lol> ]
Back to MAJESTIC, I only recognized that name on its lid when I spotted it there, wondering if it might be remains of an 'incinerator'. (which of course would never make sense as an appliance to be installed in a pit in the ground outside -- but I didn't think it thru then) Also, the house I grew up had a MAJESTIC incinerator at the foot of its basement steps much like the one shown on the cover of this advertisement:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/MAJESTIC-Home-Incinerator-1953-Catalog-Asbestos-/223545180842
...so I already did know that they made mostly (?) heating/burning/etc sorts of stuff, thus never gave it a 2nd thought until ever so recently...
...now we're back to **your fault**.... <ROTFLMAO>, w/ virtual <hugz> too!

THANKS keramikos for the interesting and informative comments, as always!! :-) Indeed this lid does seem about the right size...mebbe the next time I drive by that house I'll see if I can get a closer look at it.
THANKS ALSO to keramikos, Watchsearcher, fortapache, Brunswick, Irishcollector., yougottahavestuff, & kwqd for your <love it>s!! :-) :-) :-)
