The West German M-56 M1A1 Stahlhelm was a copy of the U.S. M1 helmet. This one is the later slight revised version from the early 80s called the helm 1A1 with modified chinstrap and liner. These helmets remained in service until 1992 when the Bundeswehr of unified Germany replaced it with a PASGT-derived kevlar helmet called the Gefechtshelm.
The camo cover reminds me a little of the camo scheme on some waffen SS uniforms.
I read that after WWII, most countries preferred the German style helmets. It upset people in the gov't. enough that they gave away American helmets as part of arms deals. To play in my sandbox, you have to use my bucket ! LOL !!
The Americans used the the WWII German design in the 1980s and are still using it. So it is all fair.
PS nice touch with the Lego soldier.
