two one-handled post hole diggers ;-)

OK, OK, there's no such thing as a one-handled post hole digger -- this is just two examples both with one of their original handles broken off. :-) It would be quite the challenge to attempt to actually use either one in current condition?!! <lol>

Pic one shows them both on my truck tailgate for size reference. The one with the round handle is obviously the older of the two, being of cast iron construction with riveted on blades. One side of that one has the word "IMPROVED" cast into it (pic 3) and "8A" cast into the other. (pic 4 RH) No other markings I've found yet on it.

The one with the (unusual?) square handle is made of heavy gauge stamped steel, again with riveted on blades. It is obviously newer, even with remaining little vestiges of original paint, but without any maker's info whatsoever I've found.

I might to should actually make a replacement handle for the newer one so's I could actually *use it* if I wanted/needed to...?? The other one actually came to me from my own Dad's garage/barn so it'll be staying just like it is -- there's a decent chance it might have first been my grandfathers before Dad got it. :-) :-) :-)
