I inherited this sign from my uncle who recently passed away. It was in Ruston, LA. The story was that it used to hang in the original Louisiana Tech football stadium and was knocked down by a storm. I don't have the exact deminsions but it's around 5ft long. The only markings on it is a small 8-38 hand painted in the bottom right corner. Besides a few rust spots the coloring is good. I have searched the internet and not seen anyone selling, or owning this particular sign so it has me wondering if it's rare, and if so, how rare and what's it's value???
nice sign the 8-38 im pretty sure is the year it was made 8 being the month (aug) and 38 being the year ( 1938 ). its a US sign so should be more desirable, but due to its size it may not get as much as you think. in mint condition i think they bring around 1000$+, in this condition maybe 500$. im not 100% sure just trying to help i know ray, or earlycoke would know for sure. i have seen some of these larger signs sell before and they usually dont get too much because they take up alot of space. its still a very nice sign, im not too sure how rare it is because im canadian so i dont see to many US signs up here. All the Vintage US coke signs are pretty rare up here, i know thats not the case down in the states were they were made. but i myself would love to have your sign in my collection, thanks for showing it.
i said 500$ in this condition, i thought it might get 1000$ if it were mint. i know collectors that have huge garages and or barns that would be willing to pay big bucks for these lager signs. i know what ray means tho not everyone lives out in the middle of no where and has large barns/ garages to display these signs.
Not a coke collector but I liked the last question.I'm from Jersey. And with little thought I say why do we put the $ before the amount. We read it as 500 dollars why do we write it as dollars 500. You know I think I am going to get a nice frosty coke and mull this over.
hedgewalker's right i didnt know you guys usually put $ sign before amount but i have always put it after so you would read it as 500 dollars, not dollars 500. its kind of funny some of the little things canadians and americans do different, you never think of it until one asks you.
i meant to ask you ray was i right about the 8-38 and the sign being worth around 1000$ if it were mint?
I'm think more like realisticly 250-300.
coke.trevor.cola you're right, not sure about the "8", but the 1938 part is right.
Thanks for the input guys. I added a pic of the company and date I found printed on the sign. What most of you are saying about it's value is about what I expected, not that I plan on selling it. I believe it's an piece of history that should be on display and I'll do that as long as I can.
Beautiful and very rare sign! These are very hard to find in any condition at all.
