I just picked up these 3 rusty horse bits. Wondering if they are specific to certain tasks and how old they may be. I’m guessing they may have been actually made by a black smith. Thank you!

Not sure about the top one, but the middle is a snaffle bit for fairly well trained horses and the bottom is a curb bit for stubborn or not so well trained horses. Because of the leverage shown with the top bit, I would say for an in-between, but never seen one quite like it. The top & bottom are for serious control, as the mouth is a sensitive area. I would say the bottom is for 1st stage after breaking, top would be next and the snaffle for a trained horse. Another name I've heard for a curb bit is "breaker-bit". Hey, what do I know ? None of the above will get their hoof off of your foot, in my experience.
