Having previously owned a piece of Bronze glass , I recognised another example when I saw this vase on eBayAU a few days ago.
It was described as an amethyst carnival glass vase, & thankfully I was the sole bidder.
The vase measures 15 cm tall, 4.5 cm across the flat, flared top rim, & 5 cm across the base, which has a perfectly polished out pontil mark.
This piece is made from a single layer of glass with an intense, dark iridescence with a strongly metallic appearance. The surface is satin smooth. In perfect condition for its substantial age, it is simple yet opulent.
By Thomas Webb & Sons, late 1870s.

Just a question. Have you searched CW for other examples of “Webb Bronze” ???

      Many thanks, Kevin!
Yes, I have looked at a few of those recently to confirm my thoughts about this vase, plus some other research in books & online.
My previous example of Webb's Bronze glass was a tall vase with handles, which I bought at Rozelle Markets many years ago. It did have some damage, & I ended up selling it several years ago when doing a major clear out of my collection.
This one is a super replacement, being in excellent condition.

Apart from the sensual decor the shape of this is purely voluptuary.
There is something perfect about it's dimensions.

Thanks so much, Karen - yes, it is exquisitely proportioned, & so tactile. A real class act!

I also enjoy Bronze glass. Many companies produced variations. Webb design books described the Webb variety as "Green Bronze" meaning that the base glass was green. Check the base glass color. If it is not green, then it is likely made by someone else.

Keeping my fingers crossed for you here, Marin. I am still searching for my first piece of legitimate Webb.
