    I recently restored and re upholstered a chair of my mothers. We have a long line of royalty in Europe which is why I kept
    the back leather shown here.William Morris cloth? Does the crest look familiar to anyone? Any input is very much appreciated !
    thank you

      The standing lion facing left was used in the Bohemia coat of arms, today it is also used in the Czech Republic National Crest.

      Nice alientrouble, I have an old Carved Plaque, with a similar Lion, it's here:

      Do you know how many Chairs there were? Because the Head over the Lion, looks like one of the Gods of the Seasons, or something like that. The Lion on my Plaque, has a Crown raised above his head. On the Crests, or Coat of Arms, every detail means something. The different Countries, have different Crests, so if you know that it would help, and about how old do you think the Chair is?
      Good Luck, I hope that you can get some help on this, I'd like to find out too! Thanks for showing! :^)

      Those are good links Lisa, every detail means something, and the Lion's Tail is different on this Crest here. I hope we come up with an answer, but Family Crests are hard, there's so many! :^D

      @Bill
      Heraldic crests and coat of arms are fascinating, I understand the minute details make a difference, such as the crown here on the old chair lion's head is not visible, but is that due to wear or was never there in the first place?

      I remember your wood plaque with the tree and the lion, it is very attractive.

      I did a bit of comparison between the Austro-Hungarian Empire shield, which was quite complicated, with a series of smaller crests, including the Bohemia lion in red and white.

      Believe it or not we had a family crest, as descendants of a family who was involved in the beginning of the establishment of New France 1654.

      Thank you all! Answering the questions: No crown on the lions head. Just mane wisps. Small cross on a belt area? My mother only had this one so not sure if there were more but I like the idea about the seasons face. Age? don't have a clue. Guessing? Material on the fill and stuffing , wear on the seat , size and condition of the tacks I'm thinking late 18th early 19th century. Looks like henry 11 ?

      Thanks, I have to believe you Lisa, I dare you to lie! :^D I try going to the Family Crests, or Coat of Arms sites but to get any information, you have to give a lot of information, and $$$, and I don't have either to spare! Did you take a lot of photos of your Chair before, and after restoration alientrouble, I always forget, it's not that I don't want to, I just jump in and start, then it's too late, but if I mess up, no evidence! :^D Thanks again, trying to solve mysteries, is always interesting! :^)

      no unfortunately. I usually do photo my projects! The only thing I updated was the leather. Stayed with the same tacks(new) and secured the structure of the chair only. Left the original finish. Still on the search for the Crest! Generic it might be but onward...
