In the 60's, Seiko came out with their own version of an ATO clock, the Sonola. It is a wall clock that is put in motion by a magnetic pendulum (see third picture) moving between to coils. As the pendulum travels back and forth, it trigger a sensor that sends a charge to the coils one at a time, thus making them an electronic magnetic that repels the magnetic the pendulum. If you notice on the back of the clock in the upper right hand corner there is a battery compartment marked Hour and Clock. The Hour battery operates the hour chime and date change. The Clock battery operates the movement of the pendulum and the coils.
Like the second generation of ATO clocks, (Junghans and Kundo) this Seiko is transistorized and regulates the coil charge by transistors.
The clock battery will last for a year before it needs replacing, the Hour (Chime and Date) is in question.
This clock has to be absolutely level. It is also available in Sanskrit, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

I actually just found one of these yesterday, the Japanese version. It’s in working order and I absolutely love it.
