I just bought this watch, 1874 sterling silver case assayed in Birmingham, UK.
The stand is a nice piece of work dated 1893 and made in Hastings, UK.
The chain is sterling silver dated 1890 Birmingham, UK.
The watch seems to have been over wound and could have mainspring damage as a result so I'll be taking it to my favourite jeweller for a service as they replace the mainspring during the service, it'll probably cost around £150 but to have an old timepiece working again is worth it in my opinion.
If I could I'd buy and restore every battered and forgotten pocket watch around as in my opinion the poor old things deserve it.
No matter their monetary value, they are all amazing pieces of mechanical wonder to me. ????
I'll try to share as many watches with you all as I manage to lay my hands on them.
I fully agree with you! The were once prized possessions to someone, long gone.
