My adventures with wearing glasses as a senior.

After spending some time recycling old eye glass frames that were still wearable, I had to find a new source to replace my regular clumsy destruction of glasses. (by sitting on them)

Enter online sales of Chinese plastic frames for a few dollars each, they don't charge much for shipping either, which is odd as far as profit, as these glasses are nice old/new stock, from the last period BIG glasses were trendy. About 1985-95.

The trick was to find glasses that would fit my bid head, thankfully the listings provided measurements, and I could compare shapes with what I had worn before.

This worked like a charm, I got new lenses every 2 years, and could switch frames for a small amount of money at my local optician, who have been patient with my ideas of replacing frames only at least once a year.

The two frames I show are a little too small for me, believe it or not, and the color or lack of it, does not suit me.

That’s good that you’ve been able to find this thrifty means of getting glasses. I’ve been wearing my current frameless ones for 9 years. They don’t fold so I’ve never been able to put them in a pocket - that’s probably why they have lasted so long.

My previous pair did fold and my bad habit was to hang them from the neck of my shirt. I lost them in the yard a few times....usually on the ground somewhere ...I’d find them, sometimes after they had been stepped up. Once, I found them hanging in a shrub where they must have gotten caught....but no bends or breaks that time. :-)

watchsearcher, funny story I can appreciate. Of course mine drop too, often in a store while trying to see on the bottom shelves, as I am bent over. Wearing a mask does not help either. Thanks for sharing and the love.

One of these days I'll break down and get my eyes checked, so I can get some Glasses that I can see out of, they don't make Readers strong enough for me anymore! Thanks for posting, the only way I can read this is I'm on the Big Screen TV, just hard to see the keyboard! :^D

That is funny Bill, in spite of the glasses, I got my laptop view at 125%, and the key board is a killer, with small grey letters against black. I wish they were fluorescent. lol.

My wife got me a lighted keys keyboard Lisa, but it just looked like blurry orange lights, didn't help to see the keys, and if I don't look at the keys, I have to try to figure out what I just typed! It looks like a foreign language :^D red is trf , and sky is wmt maybe not that bad but close! I think the Lighted board did help at night, with some glasses on though, the keyboard was just a little different size, and I was hitting 2 keys at the same time, often, so quit using it! :^)

That is the thing Bill, in the evening, I either turn the 100watt overhead light on to write coherently without typos, or I squint and stare at the keyboard in the semi light, and keep correcting every second word.

Of course the smartest thing would be to sit at a desk with a lamp, and do this typing, when I rather relax and sit back with my laptop resting on me.....lol. OOPS!

The fun of ageing vision, my husband just got a gigantic TV set with a 50 inch curved screen for his birthday, he is over the moon with it, it is pretty awesome, everything looks fascinating on a tv that size, even American football, when it was still on.

You need to take that BIG screen TV over Lisa, just hook your laptop to it get a remote keyboard , get in your easy chair, go to CW, kick back and take a nap! :^D Works for me! :^)

      Ha Ha Ha! Bill,
