This bottle is a Loetz decor called 'Aventurin'. Aventurine is typically a green glass made with copper salts with flecks within it that appear to make it sparkle. Loetz's 'Aventurin' decor dates to 1903-04.
This bottle is quite large; with the stopper in, it measures 8" (20.3cm) tall. It is enameled with a lovely fuchsia flower pattern that is copper colored, rather than gold gilt. The bottom of the stopper has a rounded base that appears fire polished, which is unlike French stoppers that are typically ground flat. The bottom of the bottle has a round, finely ground pontil, in the Loetz manner.
It is a beautiful piece, and I have a very good friend to thank for pointing it out to me! :)
I love the way the stopper sits, echoing the shape of the bottle, yet seeming aloof at the same time. An absolute treasure.
Thanks so much sklo! The stopper is actually amazing - the 'knob' is hollow inside and you can see how the green was pulled down into the clear part. I think a smaller stopper wouldn't have looked as nice with the main bottle. :)
