At first glance I thought it was a bear! No shade on Fostoria, just the shape reminded me of a bear :)
The green is a great choice for this!

He's got a rather elongated head for a frog- I thought he was some kind of otter or beaver :P
I adore his colour too, it's a really nice mix of grey and green though, he looks like he has darker stripes all through him?....If he does that's a really great colouration choice for a frog

My eyes are tired this morning, when I saw this at first I thought it was a green polar bear ;)

Karen thank you for the super comment and you are right, the general consensus is that this piece is very un-froglike lol! It does have a long jutted out head like a polar bear, and the dark shadings of the body make its crouching legs indistinct. I was very happy to find a vintage Fostoria animal though, not that many around, & I too love it in the frog green color

You are absolutely on target Lauren, not your typical frog shape - however I'd hoped the slit eye shot in the thumbnail would somehow be a tip off. The body DOES have black striations, this started happening with 1970s glass animals from WV companies, for some reason they added black into the colors & it makes them very hard to photograph - I have a lovely dark amber Wedgwood glass animal I keep trying to take pix of, even in a sunny window it has streaks but it's a lovely animal & I will get around to posting it. Fab compliments my friend, stay tuned as next post I have quite the kingly fellow you might enjoy :)

Thanks six-0-one for the great praise, I love to imagine this frog sitting on a lily pad! I think Fostoria was going for a streamlined modern 70s look with this frog, many of their animals had that look (my cobalt deer for example) but if only they left the color pure green it would have shown up better as a frog

Thanks for your very nice comment, no it's not your eyes this frog has been compared to a polar bear & other animals as it's not your typical design, but it's very sleek I think

Yes bobby I agree this does resemble the inuit frog figures, good call! Thank you for the great comparison & wonderful comment I appreciate it

Thanks Hoot for the super comment, I think he does have a rather noble bearing, and hope he is happy to be among other glass animal pals here

Lol Roycroft, I tried, but alas he is still a frog! Great fun comment thank you so much for the smile, as well as the cool Fostoria link

Thanks iggy for the smile as well, I would certainly prefer to kiss this glass frog over a real toad anyday! Really glad you enjoyed this post, I think he looks very wise with that slit eye don't you

I really appreciate the link to the Fostoria museum keramikos, love their tall display cabinets & I'm glad to own a few of their classic animal pieces - my fave is the blue dolphin compote, but this frog is a cool addition as well :)
