Rare to find one Riedel Formosa, but a pair? I spotted these on an auction site and sort of new they were special. I knew I had seen the décor somewhere before. They were a buy it now at a very low price. To be honest, I really wasn't overly enamoured with them, either the style of the foot or the enameling, just a bit too 'formal' for my liking. Anyway, big shout out goes to Warren for identifying them for me as Riedel as opossed to Harrach Formosa, which these pieces have been confused with in the past. In fact, I rather prefer the Harrach version of this décor, which generally has an aventurin inclusion and rather more free-flowing, 'natural nouveau' style enameling.
Having said all that, now that I have them, they are growing on me, and it's nice to have something a little different in my small, but growing Riedel collection. As you can see, they are in exceptional condition, I suspect they have probably been boxed away for a very long time or rarely moved as the base shows virtually no age related wear at all. 7.5" high.
Wow, these are so flamboyant & totally fabulous! They didn't take long to grow on me! :-)
Thanks Marin - they really are something else!
Amazing. Congratulations.
What do you think about date? Phil. It's great to see some newly found Bohemia/Czech glass, education with Riedel glass items if good too.
The detail is exquisite.
