I love pearls but don’t know anything about them. These are on a heavy string, very old, no clasp. Bought with a lot of miscellaneous jewelry, old, some of it very nice. The strand is approximately 33 1/4” long!
Any help identifying them would be appreciated, Thank You!

Those are fresh water pearls and I think that shape is called rice-shaped.
Compare yours to pictures of those online to confirm.

I had another thought that might help.....I do not believe the entire strand was meant to be one necklace. When you buy fresh water pearls like this, they will be strung on something like heavy fishing line or a cord of some sort.
Having them on a cord makes for easy inspection of what you are buying and let’s you know at a glance how many you are getting.....as in, how many necklaces you can make with that string of pearls you are buying.
That’s so much easier than counting a bag full of pearls.

Valentino97, thank you for that extra input....somewhere in the back of my mind there was yet another name for odd-shaped pearls....potato!!!
Sometimes bits of info are just buried too deeply to dredge to the surface of my aging brain. :-)

valentino97, please don’t think contributing information and offering corrections would be frowned upon - certainly not by me. I love learning here in CW!
CW became my primary mode of entertainment during a prolonged recovery from an accident....and now I think I’m addicted to CW.....have to check it a couple of times a day lest I miss some interesting post or fascinating information.
I’m not concerned that you corrected my use of the term “rice” when it should have been “potato” .....so, no worries here!
