I don't see this type of glass very often, so when I spotted this vase on eBay AU last week, I jumped. It is a really nice piece of Victorian uranium glass with a heat reactive opalescent floral pattern.
The vase is made from pale yellow - green glass which has a super glow under UV light. It measures around 10.5 cm tall, 8.5 cm across the wavy, loosely crimped top rim, & 5.5 cm across the base, which has a rough, snapped pontil mark.
The floral design is reminiscent of daffodils, so these miniature daffodils were the ideal accompaniment.
Numerous manufacturers produced this type of glass in England, Europe, & the USA, so at this point I'm keeping an open mind.
That's sweet.
You sure find good stuff on Aus 'Bay!
Hey Karen, thanks so much! Yes, I've been super lucky to find loads of neat items lately. Makes me think I'll probably stick to buying local even when the air travel situation eventually improves... it's cheaper, & faster to arrive...& there is actually still a lot of really good gear out there. I think maybe there's more on offer, as perhaps folks who sold stuff at flea markets are now selling from home. I have only made a couple of international buys over the last few months...none of them glass, oddly enough. There were some fab saphiret cuff links (I'm yet to post a photo) that took over 2 months to arrive...a book...also around 2 months...& another book...which I anticipate sometime in late September, going by the way things have been...I will definitely be posting that one when it shows up as it is something very special indeed! :-)
