I found this cloisonné vase some time ago, beautiful workmanship, early 20 Century or older, bulbous shape with a flare rim, applied decoration in brass, stand at 12 inches with 6.50 inches rim, 4.75 inches base, very impressive vase.
Many thanks for stopping by.
Alan
Any marks? This looks like Lao Tian Lee workmanship, a famous Republic era craftsman who started his apprenticeship in the Palace cloisonne shop, and later had his own shop in Beijing 1915 or so.
Very valued and collectible, especially made in the form of these ancient types of Chinese pieces.

Hi
truthordare
No marking at the first look, but I will investigate again, the alder lady that gave this to me, will come with the full story surrounding this vase, what I hear, this was a gift to the Shah of Iran, I will keep posting new information, as soon as I got it.

Fabulous beauty Alan, the floral cloisonne design is just wonderful & the colors so harmonious. Stellar addition to your gorgeous collection
Alain, I did a search last night and found a couple vases with the same type of cloisonne decorations, this is what is called the lotus flower and stem decor, a traditional type of Chinese Buddhist inspired motif.
Even of it is not by Lao Tian Li, it is still a great piece of Chinese cloisonne. Here is one in white:

Very nice and a really large piece of cloisonne work you have there. (Usually they tend to be small) Can you imagine the workmanship that went into this?!
I'm so glad Lisa could provide such good info on this beauty, Alan.
I don't know much at all about cloisonne but my first thought when I saw this was WOW. I knew it had to be special.
Thank you Karen, you made my day. Definitely have a good eye for these things.
Many thanks Jenni for your wonderful comment and appreciation.
Yes definitely a great addition to my collection, my picture didn't do justice to this great example of Workmanship, Labor, Patient and Time consuming Work of Art.
Alan

Alan
LaurenRedmond, yes indeed, I totally agree with you, as you see in my glass collection, I love them BIG, LOL, and this beauty is no exception, but like I mention above, my picture of this vase are not so good, but believe me, holding this vase in your hands it's a blessing, when you look closer to some details, I AM BLOW AWAY of such delicate work done by hand.
Many thanks for this very nice comments and appreciation, your support over many years is nice to me, and very much appreciated.
Alan
Karen, me too, and I knew she will come with something, has she know cloisonné more them many here.
Yes Karen you right it's a special vase, the alder ladies that gave this to me, mention this was a present to the Shah D 'Iran, I know what you thinking, d'ont buy a story but the piece itself, well if the story is truth, that add to as a bonus.
Many thanks for your always very kind comment and appreciation on my post.
Alan
are you absolutely sure tod we are talking about a possible value difference of 1000 dollars
Yes, cloisonne that is from China, made from a reputable and well known craftsman with great skills, will have many bidders, and end up being very valuable, I have seen this for myself.
I also got reports from owners of these pieces who sold them with good auction houses, and did very well. The difference is in the cloisonne piece itself, proof of age and demonstrating a great skill.
well you are so sure that you think this was possibly Lao Tian Lee
assess the ruyi ,s and the blue inner side please
date it because there is no mitla keyfret
agree about the skill , this ought to do 4 figures

you still think this is a possible Lou Tian Lee ?
can someone answer , that ought to be polite
well that was an disappointing discussion
Perhaps they know better than to argue with you, apostata.
i am not that destructive, and TOD is the better expert, but we can,t make mistakes if the stakes might be to high, concerning value ( see qianlong discussion). end of discussion
In the last 2 weeks I have been aware of more USA auctions with these types of Chinese cloisonne vase lots, and they all did very well.
My reference to Lao Tian Li was as a concrete example of early Republic Chinese cloisonne vases, usually signed. This one is not signed, possibly from the same studio in Beijing by someone else, some of the artistic pieces produced then were for the wealthy tourists who could afford to visit China.
It was a tradition in Europe at that time to do several months long trips, called 'the grand tour', where the end of the adventure would be China or Japan. That is how the high class master cloisonne studios did their business, with their expensive items. It was also possible for these visitors to requests special commission cloisonne pieces that would be shipped later on.
Here is a link to one of the recent sales I am talking about:
https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/90886586_pair-cloisonne-enamel-beaker-vases
and a similar vase not sold yet:
https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/90651091_a-rare-copper-body-cloisonne-named-huagu-vase
so first its quality because its comparable to Lao Tian Lee
and than is the comparison a non mounted beaker as you read chinese is Qianlong , again its qianlong !!!!!!!!!
and than an comparison huagua which you don,t know its gonna bounce or not
the comparisons is completely lame !
i stop this discussion
Typical reply apostata, you are disappointed if you don't have one, and then you dismiss it in a poorly mannered way, when you do.... and decide to stop this discussion?
Because I respect the poster, I am allowing myself to be judged again, because I wanted him to see what I recently experienced in this category. This is not Qianlong, the ruyie borders are later types of decorations, and the gold finish is still too fresh to be that old.
off course i dismiss it,This looks like Lao Tian Lee workmanship, a famous Republic era craftsman so Lao Tian li is top notch or is comparable
also qianlong is topnotch, yes sure , if you recognize it ! , and can read it
the comparison is completely ad random
i am surprised actually , you did not know your own qianlong was qianlong !
ok we agree to disagree, you do the cloisonne , i don,t want beef
never got an answer , what didd i miss , IMO it is is expensive guangxu, let BEAtrice do the job otherwise, she is the expert, we are just
you dismiss it in a poorly mannered see former, dear TOD you missed your OWN QIANLONG on SOTHESBY,S
and dear TOD i owned the Yehuda collection in cloisonne, as you might know
