    This doll was found in the walls of an old house I was renovating in 1995. On the back it reads
    "Made in Japan 5/3/5" I assume that means May 3, 1905. If anyone could tell me anything about this porcelain/bisque doll, it would be appreciated! Thank you!

      Most likely a post WW2pattern mark. "Nippon" was used to identify Japanese pottery from 1891-1921. Also, their dating/calendar system was different than ours in the west.

      Probably a model/mold number, S1315.

      These novelty doll were like the Japan version of the dime store doll or pocket doll. The mark you see is mold number . Called Frozen Charolette dolls because no joints move . Date around 1920s-40s .
