I didn't find any Matchbox at Long Beach so back to featuring another car from the G-5 Gift Set. This one is the 1909 Opel which was known as the Doctor's Car. It does look a bit like the buggies doctors used to ride in the old west. Also back in the days when doctors made house calls. When was the last time they did that? I don't recall doctors ever making house calls except on TV.
The Opel Coupe had 4 cylinder 1029cc 8 horse power engine. That is the equivalent of several lawn mowers. Easier than hitching up the horse and buggy.
This model was first made in 1967 and sold in this paint scheme through 1973. Then in 1974 it turned a lovely orange. Try not to look directly at one of those.
Yesteryears from this era were mostly brass age from about 60 years before this model was made. As the gift set was sold from 1968-69 that makes this model over 50 years old now.
