    27th Munitions Maintenance Squadron
    Metal plaque approximately 6" tall

The 27th Munitions maintenance Squadron was established somewhere around 1951 from what I have read.

I picked this up recently from another collector of Oddities. Somewhat of a mystery as there is little information available on this.

I believe this falls under the 27th Special Operations maintenance group?

The 27th Special Operations Maintenance Group executes global special operations taskings as an Air Force component member of United States Special Operations Command.

    The Command - ussocom
Role - Provide fully capable Special Operations Forces to defend the United States and its interests.
The above information is probably why can't find much on this item. if you have any information feel free to chime in.

The unit was deactivated-- not sure of the year.

The item was made for use on a plaque-- often made for a gift for officers and Senior NCOs when they depart a unit.

The information is very little. Theres a website that says they are still existing, but if you look at the dates, last service was like. 2004. So maybe they were active when the web page was written?

My guess would be that the plaque was made for a hanger or to mark a storage facility. It's pretty heavy duty and looks like it was attached. Way too well made for a souvenir gift?

I couldn't find an exact date either.

Your item is fairly small to mark a facility and typical of plaque size.

Here is an example of what I am talking about (plaque):

Ok, that's kinda what I envisioned when you said plaque. Just seems it would be an awful big plaque. I'll continue to research. Sometimes that's part of the fun. I have some 1950s inert heavy mortars and thought this would look great with them.
