A very cool-looking Japanese vase picked up by my father-in-law while in Japan AFTER the war. He recently passed away and we found this item in his belongings. We'd like to get this item appraised, but not sure where to start. Anyone have any info about a vase such as this? Thanks!

Looks like a Kutani footed incense burner. Your father-in-law would have been stationed in Japan after the war, not during the war, unless he was a POW. You can't get an appraisal on this site, but there is an Appraisal link at the top of this page. You can Google Kutani incense burner if you want to see some other examples.
