Smokey The Bear Snuffit, Comic Book, Ashtray & Medallion

In 1944, Smokey the Bear was created by the U.S. Forest Service as a mascot for forest-fire prevention.

I've had the red ashtray and medallion for a long time. I recently picked up the Smokey the Bear snuffit ashtray and comic book.

Smokey The Bear Snuffit. The top says, " prevent forest fires says snuffit". This particular item is Circa 1950s to 60s. has a magnetic base to stick to the dashboard of your vehicle. Remember this was when cars and trucks had lots of Steel inside. These have increased in value recently, making it a nice future collectible.

The true story of Smokey the Bear comic book. To my surprise when I bought the snuffit ashtray, the gentleman told me this goes with it. This was published by Western Publishing Company. My particular book was published in 1969 with previous publishing being done in 1960 and 1964.

I believe these were made by my god father's father. He was one of those old school rich people with all the proper manners. I have been trying to find one as everyone in my family had one even if they didn't smoke.

That's interesting. Which piece are you referring to? The smokey head snuffit?

In 2021, I retired from the US Forest Service after 17+ years. I am still giving, throwing, filing Smokey memorabilia away. I recently sent a booklet to the thrift store, but I believe it was a more modern printing. I still use my Smokey ruler, pencil sharpener, eraser tho...
