Chicago Painting "Back Of The Loop" - Samuel Greenburg (1905-1980)
I believe it's circa 1930
This is the first time I've ever shown this painting. Enjoy.
This painting has hung in my parents house since I was a child (50 years) and now it belongs to me. I have only seen one of his similar Chicago style painting on Pinterest. I know some of his works hang in museums in the Chicago area.
Samuel Greenburg is seen as an established artist, who was born in the United States. Samuel Greenburg was born in 1905. Artists Franz Kline, Mark Rothko, Lee Krasner, Willem de Kooning and Ansel Adams are of the same generation and same country as Samuel Greenburg. Samuel Greenburg was born in 1905 and was predominantly influenced by the 1920s.
I'm nobody's art critic but I LOVES me some "Windy City" -- I'd hang and enjoy that in a heartbeat even without the cool provenance!! :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)
AO - thanks..I love this piece and have admired it all my life.
Here's another one you missed..
