    Glass Fly Trap

I wanted one of these for a long time. So recently at an estate sale, I found one. Funny on the way home we stopped at another garage sale and I found a second one. The second one was a wasp trap but I found out it's newer. I know this one is really old because most of the stuff there was 40s and 50s.

**No flies were harmed taking these photos. That's a plastic fly.**

A fly bottle or glass flytrap is a passive trap for flying insects. In the Far East, it is a large bottle of clear glass with a black metal top in which there is a hole. An odorous bait is placed in the bottom of the bottle in the form of pieces of meat. Flies enter the bottle in search of food and are then unable to escape because their phototaxis behavior leads them anywhere in the bottle except to the darker top where the entry hole is.

A European fly bottle is more conical, with small feet that raise it 1.25 cm (0.5 in), with a trough about an 2.5 cm (1 in) wide and deep that runs inside the bottle all around the central opening at the bottom of the container. In use, the bottle is stood on a plate and some sugar is sprinkled on the plate to attract the flies, which eventually fly up into the bottle, whose trough is filled with beer or vinegar, into which the flies fall and drown.[8] In the past, the trough was also sometimes filled with a dangerous mixture of milk, water, and arsenic or mercury chloride.

What a cool invention...keep us posted about it’s efficiency. :-)
It’s more attractive than that spiral sticky yellow fly tape.

Thanks. I was in a hurry earlier so I went back and added some more information to the post, in case you're interested.

This one will be for display purposes. But the more contemporary version that I picked up I will probably try out.
