I tried to look online and couldn't see anything about this medal. It came from an estate of the Rast/Kidder family who lived in Roseburg Oregon in the 1800's. If anyone knows how to look up old records or information about this tournament that took place in 1895 i would love to know more. It appears to be silver but I didn't see the silver mark but has the look and feel of sterling silver.

No man alive can simply hold an item and say this is silver. Only a test proves that. If you want accurate information Grants Pass has a historical society that would be worth contacting with the pictures and question. From what I have seen online I would expect they will say it is a reproduction for a centennial celebration.

I agree I guess you really can't tell by the touch or feel. I'm fairly confident this is actually from 1895 jidging by the condition of the silk ribbon that shows its age but will definitely contact the Grants Pass Historical society to see what they think. It came from a very well known family from Roseburg Oregon who owned a brewery and a flour mill I believe. I have many neat old photos from the family from the late 1800's -1910 fingers crossed they will have some good information about this. I will update this if they give me anything good :)

I did have it tested today and it came back as sterling silver ???? now I just need to contact the museum to see if they can help me figure out the significance of this tournament that took place in 1895 with this fire hose cart.

If you work with silver for a long time yes you can just look at it and know if it's real or not. Same thing as gold, i can look at a gold ring on your finger and tell you what Karet it is without even touching it.
