I'm going through my great grandfather's things and came across this interesting tool. He was a importer of exotic hides in Boston Mass around 1900 . I found this in an old steamer trunk with a few hides from a said I desert lizard 1905 and a 7' long boa constrictor skin . I have no idea what this is called . Thanks
Apparently it's an Oyster Shucker?

Is the handle removable from the antler?
Mark looks a lot like Meriden..

In 1895 Meriden Britannia Co bought Wilcox & Evertsen of New York, beginning the manufacture of a quality line of sterling silver hollowware. This production was soon transferred to Meriden and continued also when the firm became part of International silver Company
Meriden Britannia Company: sterling silver mark
Dav, you seem correct . I don't realize that it said "STERLING".. I am a novice to this OBVIOUSLY! That makes sense now ... I'm not sure it's an oyster sucker though but it is possible
Heres a 2nd link showing the same tool.

Also if you search, theres other examples of Meriden with stag handles.
