I use this as a woodworking scribe. Cross grain only... I know it to be my great grandfathers at least. The blade is stamped J Jervis

Great old tool , I like the handle shape!! Could that have been made by your great grandfather? From the photos it looks three sided, could it have been made from a metal file??

I would say homemade from an old screw driver. I have old screw drivers with the same type handles that my father in law owned after WWII. I have ground them off like that to use as a hollowing tool on my wood lathes.

Could be used as an Oyster shucker.

A flat sharpened blade...not unlike an oyster knife, but it's the makers stamp that isn't right for that, or as homemade... I know that scribe blades were a thing before early 1800's.Seems like I saw Mr Underhill describe one years ago.
